Okay, so today I’m tackling the remake of the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag, the classic style. It’s been on my to-do list for a while, and I’m finally diving in.
First things first, I gathered all my materials. I’d already sourced a really good quality Saffiano leather a while back – it’s got that signature cross-hatch texture that just screams luxury. I made sure I had enough for the whole bag, including the little details. I also grabbed my trusty cutting mat, a sharp rotary cutter, and my metal ruler. Gotta have those crisp, clean lines.
I started by carefully cutting out the main body pieces. I’m working from a pattern I drafted myself, based on tons of photos and measurements I found online. It took a few tries to get the dimensions just right, but I think I nailed it. This mini version of the Galleria is super cute, but it’s still surprisingly roomy inside.
- Cut out the front and back panels. These are the largest pieces and form the main shape of the bag.
- Cut out the side panels. These are a bit trickier because they have that slight curve to them. I took my time and double-checked everything before making the cuts.
- Cut out the base. This is a simple rectangle, but it’s important to get it precise so the bag sits flat.
Next, I started working on the handles. I cut out long, thin strips of leather and reinforced them with some interfacing to give them structure. I stitched them together carefully, making sure the seams were strong and neat. I wanted those handles to be able to withstand daily use, you know?
Then came the fun part – assembling the bag. I started by attaching the side panels to the front and back panels. I used my sewing machine for this, stitching slowly and carefully to keep everything aligned. It’s really satisfying to see the bag start to take shape.
Once the main body was together, I attached the base. This was a bit fiddly, but I managed to get it done without any major mishaps. I used a leather-specific needle in my sewing machine and a heavy-duty thread for extra durability.
After that, I added the lining. I chose a soft, silky fabric that feels really nice against your hand. I stitched it into the bag, creating a neat and tidy interior. I added a small pocket inside, too, for keeping things organized.
The last step was attaching the hardware. I found some really nice quality clasps and buckles online that matched the original Prada design. I carefully marked where they needed to go and used a leather punch to make the holes. Then, I riveted them in place. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but I was super careful, and they turned out great.
Finally, I attached the handles. I stitched them onto the bag, reinforcing the stitches multiple times to make sure they were super secure. And there it was – my very own remake of the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag. It took me a good few days of work, but I’m so happy with how it turned out. It looks just like the real thing, but I made it myself, which makes it even more special.
