So, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I gotta say, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has always been one of those “dream” pieces for me. But let’s be real, the price tag on those things is insane! That’s why I decided to try my hand at finding a decent imitation, specifically the Reverso Tribute Monoface. I mean why not? I feel it could bring the same feeling at a very low cost.
I started by hitting up all the usual online marketplaces, you know, those big ones everyone uses. I was really digging deep, reading through tons of product descriptions and comparing pictures. Some of them looked alright, but I knew that these online stores photos always try to make things look better than they actually are.It is a trap!
After a few days of searching, I finally found a seller that seemed legit. They had pretty good reviews, and the pictures of the watch looked promising. It was still a gamble, but I figured it was worth a shot. So, I placed the order, biting my nails and hoping for the best.
When the package finally arrived, I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning. And you know what? It wasn’t half bad! The watch definitely had that classic Reverso look, with the rectangular case and the clean, simple dial. Of course, it wasn’t perfect. The materials felt a bit cheaper than the real deal, and the movement was obviously not on the same level as a genuine JLC.
- I noticed that the engraving on the back, which was supposed to be this cool Art Deco design, was a bit rough around the edges.
- And the “green” dial, which is a selling point, it is not that vivid.
- The power is about one day, which is less than the real JLC, I guess.
But hey, for the price, I really couldn’t complain. It was a fun little project, and it gave me a taste of what it might be like to own a real Reverso someday. Plus, it’s a good conversation starter. People always ask me about it, and I get to tell them the whole story.
My two cents
Would I recommend doing this to everyone? Probably not. If you’re a serious watch collector, an imitation is never going to cut it. But if you’re just someone who appreciates the design and wants to try it out, without spending a fortune, I’d say go for it. Just don’t expect it to be the same as the real thing, which I do not think is a bad idea to begin with.
And hey, maybe this little experiment will even inspire me to save up for the genuine article eventually. Who knows? But for now, I’m pretty happy with my little imitation Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface. It does look good on my wrist!
