Okay, so I’ve been seeing this Fendi Brown Zucchino Mama Forever Baguette Shoulder Bag everywhere lately, and it’s like, a total vintage vibe. I decided I had to make my own version. I figured, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, harder than I thought, but still a fun ride.
First, I gathered all my materials. I needed some brown canvas fabric, since that’s the main look of the bag. I also snagged some chocolate brown leather scraps for the trim and strap – got those for a steal at a local craft store, score! I found the silver-tone hardware online after some digging. I’m talking buckles, clasps, the whole nine yards.
Next, I started by sketching out the design. I studied a bunch of pictures of the original Fendi bag online, really zooming in on the details, how the canvas was stitched, where the logo sat, the whole thing. Then I drew up my own pattern, trying to get it as close to the real deal as possible. Let me tell you, it took a few tries to get the shape of that baguette just right.
Once I was happy with the pattern, I cut out the canvas and leather pieces. This was a bit nerve-wracking, I’m not gonna lie. One wrong snip and I’d be starting all over again. But I took my time, measured everything twice, and got it done.
Then came the fun part – sewing! I dusted off my old sewing machine (haven’t used that thing in ages!) and got to work. I stitched the canvas pieces together, slowly but surely. Then I attached the leather trim, which was a bit tricky, but I managed it. The hardest part was probably making the shoulder strap. I wanted it to be adjustable, just like the original, so that involved a lot of fiddling with buckles and leather loops.
- Sewing the canvas: This was pretty straightforward, just had to make sure the seams were strong and even.
- Attaching the leather trim: A little more challenging, since leather is thicker than canvas. Had to use a special needle for that.
- Creating the shoulder strap: Definitely the most time-consuming part. Lots of measuring, cutting, and sewing involved.
After many hours, I finally finished! I added the silver-tone hardware, which really brought the whole thing together. I even managed to replicate that signature Fendi logo on the front flap – I used a stencil and some fabric paint for that. Not perfect, but pretty darn close!
Honestly, it’s not an exact replica of the Fendi Zucchino Mama Baguette, but I’m super proud of it. It’s got that same vintage feel, and it’s definitely a unique piece. Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special. I’ve been carrying it everywhere, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. People can’t believe I made it myself! It is a little rough around the edges, the stitching is definitely not professional grade, and the logo is a bit wonky, but I think that adds to its charm. The canvas was a bit of a pain to work with, it kept fraying, and the leather was tough on my sewing machine, and that shoulder strap… don’t even get me started on that thing. But hey, I did it!
So, yeah, that’s my Fendi-inspired bag story. Maybe I will try to sell it. I saw some listed for 700 or 800 bucks, so maybe I can get at least 400 for mine? What do you guys think? I don’t know. Anyway, it was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll tackle another designer bag next. Any suggestions?
