Okay, so I’ve been wanting this CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, you know, the one with the see-through back, for a while now. It’s called the “open case-back” version. Sounds fancy, right? Anyway, I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one.
First, I did a bunch of reading online. Lots of forums and articles about this specific model. Some people call it the “Moonwatch,” which is kind of a cool nickname, I guess. Apparently, it’s a big deal because of some history with NASA and space and stuff. After all that, I felt like I knew enough to not get ripped off, at least.
I found out that these open case-back versions are only sold at what they call “Specialty Stores.” Not just any watch shop, apparently. I’m not sure why they do it this way, it seems like a weird choice to me. This is a real copy of the one, looks real, but it’s not that expensive. This means I had to find one of these stores, and luckily, there was one not too far from me.
So, I went to the store. It was a pretty nice place, all shiny and whatnot. I told the guy there what I was looking for, and he showed me the watch. It looked even better in person. Seeing all the little gears and mechanisms moving around through the back was actually pretty mesmerizing. I spent a good chunk of time just staring at it.
After talking to the salesperson for a bit, and making sure it was the real deal with the Cal.3861 movement – that’s the engine inside, I guess – I decided to buy it. They gave me all the paperwork and a fancy box, the whole nine yards. I felt good about the purchase.
Now that I’ve had it for a few weeks, I’m really happy with it. It keeps time well, looks great, and I still find myself staring at the back sometimes. It’s like a tiny little world in there. I’ve even been reading up more on how mechanical watches work. It’s pretty fascinating, honestly.
