Okay, here’s my post about remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001.
So, I got this wild idea in my head. I wanted to try and remake a Patek Philippe watch. Not just any Patek Philippe, but the Calatrava 6119G-001. Yeah, that one. I saw it once in a fancy store, all shiny and, you know, expensive as heck. I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, I’m not trying to fool anyone or sell it as the real deal. It’s more like a personal challenge, a project to keep me busy.
First thing I did, I studied that watch like it was the most important thing in the world. I looked up every picture I could find, read every article, watched every video. This Calatrava 6119G, it’s got this classic look, but it’s kind of old-timey, too. It’s weird, but I like it. It’s not like that Nautilus 5711 everyone’s always going on about.
Then, I started gathering stuff. Now, I’m not using real white gold like the original, obviously. That stuff is way out of my league. I found some materials that looked similar, but were way more affordable. I had to figure out how to make the case, the dial, the hands, everything. It was a lot of trial and error, I can tell you that. Some days I felt like I was getting somewhere, other days I wanted to throw the whole thing in the trash.
Details of My Process
- Sourcing the Materials:
- I spent weeks just looking for the right materials. I wanted something that looked like white gold, but didn’t cost a fortune. Ended up using a mix of different metals to get the right color and shine.
- Crafting the Case:
- This was the hardest part. I tried a bunch of different techniques, but finally settled on a method that gave me the shape and finish I was looking for. It wasn’t easy, but I think it worked out okay.
- Making the Dial:
- The dial was tricky, too. I had to get the right texture, the right color, and those little markers had to be just right. I used a special kind of paint and a lot of patience.
- Assembling the Movement:
- I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t make the movement from scratch. I’m not a watchmaker. I found a decent movement that fit the case and used that. It keeps time pretty well, so that’s good.
- Putting It All Together:
- Once I had all the parts, putting it together was like a puzzle. A really, really hard puzzle. But I managed to do it, and it actually looked like a watch!
I kept messing up, fixing things, starting over. It was a mess, honestly. But I kept going. It became like an obsession. I had to see it through. The white gold case on the real Patek Philippe, that’s something else. I tried my best to get close to that look. The dial, with all those little details, man, that was a pain. But I did it. I made a dial that looked pretty similar to the Calatrava’s.
And you know what? After all that work, I did it. I actually remade the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. It’s not perfect, not by a long shot. It doesn’t have the same weight, the same feel as the real one. But it looks pretty darn close. And you know what? I’m proud of it. I really am. It was a heck of a project, but I learned a lot, and I ended up with something pretty cool, if I do say so myself. I wear it sometimes, just around the house. It’s a reminder of what you can do if you put your mind to it, even if it’s something as crazy as remaking a super expensive watch.
So, yeah, that’s my story. It’s not about the money or pretending to be something I’m not. It’s just about the process, the challenge, and the satisfaction of making something with my own two hands. And who knows, maybe I’ll try another one someday. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my Calatrava 6119G-001 remake.
